Recent ActivityA free summer program open to 10th and 11th grade students in the arts and in academics, Governor's School is a residential program that provides four weeks of aesthetically and intellectually stimulating experiences to 490 of Virginia's most gifted students. Open to all sophomore and junior applicants, competitive local and state auditions determine Arts students acceptances and an essay is required from Academic student applicants. A life changing experience, Governor's School is housed at Radford University, Christopher Newport University, Virginia Commonwealth University, Lynchburg College and at Virginia Tech. There is an even more exclusive Mentorship Program housed at various Virginia locations.

Visual and performing arts (VPA) programs include Dance, Instrumental Music, Vocal Music, Theatre, and Visual Arts. There is an Informational Meeting in the Red Room for those 10th and 11th grade students interested in the Visual and Performing Arts Governor’s School scheduled for Friday, October 7, 2011 from 8:00 AM to 8:20 AM. Students should get a pass from their Visual or Performing Arts teacher, sponsor, Mrs. Casillas in guidance or Mr. DuBois in his room (1805) or office (1803).
Academic programs include Agriculture, Humanities, Mathematics, Science, Technology, Life Sciences and Medicine, and the Mentorships in Engineering, and Marine Science. There is an Informational Meeting in the Auditorium for those 10th and 11th grade students interested in the Academic Governor’s School scheduled for Tuesday, October 18, 2011 from 7:45-8:20 AM. Students should get a pass from Mrs. Casillas in guidance or Mr. DuBois in his room (1805) or office (1803).
